jewels of the night
The stars are the jewels of the night, and perchance surpass anything which day has to show.
— Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
Temari no. 150!
Another ribbed kiku herringbone (sujidate giku) — but this is the first time I used a double thread for stitching for a fuller effect. It's not layered like others I have done (for example no. 97 and no. 104) and has quite a different appearance. I worked toward the equator and had the luck that the two pole designs met well at the center, and I could make them flush, as if it is a continuous pattern around the center. A really interesting experiment.
Thread wrap in black. S10 division in perle #8. Embroidery in 8 shades of blues, violets, and golds. The quote by Henry David Thoreau is in the bell box along with brass rings that make a quiet traditional rattle. Circumference: 11.125 inches / 28.5 cm; diameter: 3.54 inches / 9.07 cm. Completed 8 September 2012 (no. 150).
